White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt dunked on the liberal media for failing to get President Donald Trump’s diet coke “joke.”
“I think you know the president has a very good sense of humor. It’s one of his most under-reported characteristics, I would say,” Leavitt said when asked about the comment.
“I have heard him tell this joke before. I think The Wall Street Journal should get a better sense of humor.”
The question followed comments from Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Administrator Dr. Mehmet Oz, who recounted a conversation with Trump during an appearance on the “Triggered” podcast.

“Bobby [Robert F. Kennedy Jr.] and I usually go to the meetings together,” Oz said. “Then comes the diet soda pops, which your dad argues that diet soda is good for him because it kills grass — if it’s poured on grass — so therefore, it must kill cancer cells inside the body.”
Oz described a separate exchange aboard Air Force One involving the president and a soft drink.
“You know, we were on Air Force One the other day, and I walk in there because he wants to talk about something, and he’s got an orange soft drink on his desk. He’s got a Fanta on the desk,” Oz said.

“And I say, ‘Are you kidding me?’ So he starts to, like, sheepishly grin,” he continued. “He says, ‘You know, this stuff’s good for me, it kills cancer cells.’”
Oz added that Trump once joked that Fanta Orange could be considered healthy because it was “fresh-squeezed.”
Donald Trump Jr. responded during the same conversation by pointing to his father’s energy level.

“Because I will say this: I know a lot of guys pushing 80 — not a lot have his level of energy, recall, stamina,” he said, while noting the claim should not guide public policy.
Oz agreed, describing Trump’s health profile in broad terms.
“My father eats like a blue-collar American. It’s not a show, it’s just what he does,” Trump Jr. said during the discussion, referencing the president’s diet.
He added that Trump regularly consumes fast food, including “two Big Macs and multiple fries,” and described him as appearing “like a kid caught with his hand in the cookie jar.”
Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has also commented on the president’s eating habits.
“The interesting thing about the president is that he eats really bad food, which is McDonald’s, and, you know, candy and Diet Coke,” Kennedy said during a separate podcast appearance. “He drinks the Diet Coke at all times.”
But Kennedy also noted, “He has the constitution of a deity. I don’t know how he’s alive, but he is.”
The discussion of Trump’s diet surfaced again this week after a McDonald’s delivery arrived at the White House as part of an event tied to his “No Tax on Tips” policy.
Trump received two bags of McDonald’s from a delivery worker wearing a “DoorDash Grandma” shirt, in a moment captured on video released by the White House.
“The reason for this is the fact that I heard you picked up an extra $11,000 … because the tax bill was so big, the refund was the biggest you’ve ever had,” Trump said as he accepted the order.
“We should call it the ‘great big beautiful tax cut bill,’ because it’s tremendous amounts of money,” he added.
The delivery driver, later identified as Sharon Simmons, was asked about tipping at the White House.
“Yes, very,” she said.
Trump appeared to take cash from his pocket and hand it to Simmons during the exchange, before she entered the Oval Office.
DoorDash said the policy being highlighted has had a financial impact on workers.
“With No Tax on Tips, Dashers across the U.S. saved hundreds of millions of dollars last year,” said Max Rettig, the company’s global head of public policy.
“DoorDash is proud to advocate on behalf of Dashers like Sharon and push for policies like No Tax on Tips because they deliver real impact to so many hardworking people and their families,”
The tax measure referenced during the event allows certain workers to deduct income earned from tips, up to a set limit, while phasing out for higher earners.
The White House has pointed to those provisions in recent messaging tied to tax day, including the McDonald’s delivery.
NEW: President Trump says the McDonald’s DoorDash delivery to the White House was a “little tacky” but is necessary to win election landslides.

Trump later addressed the event during a roundtable in Las Vegas.
“To be honest, it was a little tacky,” he said. “You know, they come up with these crazy ideas … They’re a little embarrassing.”
He referenced the delivery again while discussing the administration’s effort to promote the policy.
“DoorDash grandma,” as he called her, had brought the food to the White House earlier in the week, a moment that drew attention as officials highlighted the tax changes.
