Rep. Lauren Boebert’s (R-Colo.) own bad behavior got called out after she made an explicit barb about the actions of two disgraced lawmakers on Capitol Hill.
“Yeah, go to church. Find Jesus. Like, why is everybody so horny here?” Boebert said Thursday while speaking to reporters outside the U.S. Capitol.
Her remarks came days after former Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.) and former Rep. Tony Gonzales (R-Texas) resigned from Congress amid allegations tied to sexual misconduct.
Boebert also urged lawmakers to reflect on their conduct, telling reporters moments before her comment that colleagues should attend church and “find Jesus.”

The statement quickly drew attention given Boebert’s own past controversy involving an indecent incident at a theater in Denver in 2023.
Surveillance footage from that wild night showed Boebert and a man identified as her then-boyfriend engaged in heavy petting during a live performance of “Beetlejuice.”
The man reportedly groped her breasts while she touched his groin, according to the frisky footage, which was later widely circulated.

Boebert said at the time she accepted responsibility for the situation and would not continue seeing her one-night man.
“It’s always hard whenever there’s gravity put on the voters. I’m here to provide levity and lift burdens off of people, so anytime they’re carrying mine, it’s something that I kind of feel deep inside,” she said in remarks reported after their R-rated show.
Public reaction to Boebert’s comments about lawmakers followed quickly, and it all pointed back to her own public performance.
“By church she means the next Beetlejuice matinee,” someone commented.

“Didn’t you get caught jerking a guy off during the Beetlejuice musical?” radio host Emma Vigeland wrote in response.
“Rep. Boebert has a point. Take it to the theatre like a civilized person. Perhaps a showing of ‘Beetlejuice,’ returning to Broadway at the National this summer,” snarked journalist Jim Lokay.

Swalwell announced his resignation earlier this week as allegations mounted from multiple women.
One former aide claimed that Swalwell raped her in a Manhattan hotel room in 2024 while she was intoxicated and refusing him.
She told CNN that the incident was the second time he assaulted her while she was heavily intoxicated.

Lonna Drewes said Swalwell drugged, choked and sexually assaulted her after promising to use his connections to aide her in 2018.
Three additional women said the former congressman sent unsolicited explicit messages and nudes.
The Department of Justice announced that they are investigating the allegations, while district attorneys in Los Angeles and Manhattan have also opened separate probes.
Swalwell has denied the accusations, despite dropping out of the race for California governor and resigning from his post.
If he resigns he takes all of his taxpayer funded Congressional benefits with him. Expel him. https://t.co/nm7Ukbpths

Gonzales also stepped down this week following an investigation by the House Ethics Committee.
The committee’s inquiry focused on allegations of sexual misconduct involving a staff member, along with claims that he provided favorable treatment in the workplace.
Boebert said both lawmakers should have been removed from Congress than allowed to resign.
“I think they should’ve been expelled and not resigned,” she said during an interview with CNN’s Manu Raju.
“And I think that we actually need to look into ways to censure, with other aspects to say you can’t have your pension, you can’t leave here with all your taxpayer-funded benefits after such shameful acts that cause you to bow out and resign from Congress,” she added.
She has also called for action regarding federal pensions for former lawmakers.
Boebert said Swalwell’s pension “should be redirected to his victims” in a post on X.
She later released a video stating she was “working on” efforts to ensure lawmakers accused of misconduct do not continue receiving taxpayer-funded benefits.
“Former Congressman Eric Swalwell abused his position of power in Congress to assault and victimize women,” Boebert said in the video.
“Now as things stand, taxpayers will be sending him tens of thousands of dollars every year for the rest of his life. This is totally unacceptable.”
Under federal retirement systems, including the Federal Employees Retirement System and the Civil Service Retirement System, lawmakers become eligible for pensions after at least five years of service.
Swalwell and Gonzales would not be able to access those benefits until age 62 and would receive approximately $22,000 annually.
NEW: Comedian Dave Chappelle says he resents the Republican Party for "weaponizing" his transgender jokes.
Chappelle also called out Lauren Boebert over an incident on Capitol Hill.

Boebert has also clapped back at criticism from comedian Dave Chappelle, who said in a recent interview that political figures had used his jokes about transgender issues for their own purposes.
Chappelle said he “resents” that the Republican Party ran on transgender jokes and referenced a social media post involving Boebert.
In response, Boebert snapped back about the criticism. “I don’t think I used his joke, though. I mean, transgenderism is a joke,” she said. “There was no jab, I was just stating facts.”

When asked about Chappelle’s comments during an interview, Boebert dismissed the criticism.
“I mean, you’re a comedian, be a little tougher… People say things about me all the time. I go in my comment section. Do you think I sit at home and cry about it, and just wait for NPR to show up and have a counseling session with them?” she commented.
