The White House marked Star Wars Day with a Trump-as-Mandalorian meme, and the internet immediately fired back with the force of an army of keyboard warriors.
An image shared across official White House social media accounts showed President Donald Trump depicted as the armored bounty hunter from “The Mandalorian,” clutching an American flag while Grogu, the franchise’s widely known “Baby Yoda,” sat tucked into a satchel at his side.
“In a galaxy that demands strength – America stands ready. This is the way. May the 4th be with you,” the caption read, borrowing the signature line from the franchise
The post tied into the annual May 4 celebration, a fan-driven holiday built around the phrase “May the force be with you,” which has become shorthand for Star Wars fandom worldwide.

Reaction online was immediate, with critics mocking the imagery and questioning the tone of the message.
Some users responded by posting their own altered versions of the image, including depictions of Trump as Jabba the Hutt, while others compared him to Jar Jar Binks.
“Bro really dropped a Star Wars edit with himself as Mando and Grogu,” one user wrote alongside a laughing emoji. “This ain’t strength, this is straight delusion. May the copium be with you.”
Others criticized the messaging itself, suggesting the use of Star Wars imagery to project military strength felt out of place.
“Using Star Wars quotes to talk about military strength feels a little bit dystopian if we are being honest,” one Instagram user commented.

“This has caused a major disturbance in the force today. Yikes,” another added.
Another questioned how “this is what official communication has become” from the White House’s account.
The meme was not the first time the White House leaned into Star Wars imagery tied to Trump.
In 2025, a Star Wars Day post featured a photoshopped image of Trump holding a red lightsaber while surrounded by bald eagles.
Happy May the 4th to all, including the Radical Left Lunatics who are fighting so hard to to bring Sith Lords, Murderers, Drug Lords, Dangerous Prisoners, & well known MS-13 Gang Members, back into our Galaxy. You’re not the Rebellion—you’re the Empire.

Far-left actor Mark Hamill, who portrayed Luke Skywalker in the original trilogy, criticized that post at the time.
“Proof this guy is full of Sith,” Hamill wrote.
He later continued to bemoan the White House’s riff his most famous role during an appearance on “The View,” focusing on what he described as a basic inconsistency in “Star Wars” lore.
“Well, first of all, I thought: ‘If he’s a Star Wars fan, he should know he should be holding a green lightsaber,’” Hamill complained. “Not an evil red lightsaber!”
Hamill also explained that he prefers responding to Trump’s liberal trolling antics with humor rather than anger.
“I don’t get angry and I don’t drop F-bombs,” he said. “I mean, I know I have a lot of kids that follow me, but I think to have fun with it, mock him — that’s the kryptonite to malignant narcissists.”
The White House also used the Star Wars theme in another post this year, releasing a video styled after the franchise’s iconic opening crawl.

The clip, titled “Lo-Fi MAGA Victories to Enjoy Your May 4th,” listed a series of second-term accomplishments scrolling up the screen.
Items referenced in the video included reports of economic growth, lower inflation, a secure border, the creation of a “Make America Healthy Again” commission, a $1,776 “warrior dividend” for military members, and diplomatic engagements.
Reaction to that post followed a similar pattern of disdain, with liberal critics using Star Wars language to mock both the content and presentation.
“Demented you are. I cannot wait until Boba Fat’s presidency is a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away. May the farts be with you,” one user wrote.
Late-night host and frequent Trump foe Jimmy Kimmel also referenced the meme during his Monday monologue, using it as part of a larger set of jokes about Trump and his social media activity.
“Jabba the president did not celebrate Star Wars today. He’s barely focused on the real war he’s got us into,” Kimmel jabbed.
Kimmel also referenced Trump’s weekend appearance at a PGA Tour event at his Florida golf resort.
“This is what he likes to do,” Kimmel said as footage of Trump waving to a crowd played. “Wave at other white people at country clubs he owns.”
He also mocked a series of AI-generated images shared by Trump on Truth Social, including one showing him shirtless at the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool.
Kimmel joked that artificial intelligence “shaved 80 pounds off” Trump’s gut.
The back-and-forth is the latest chapter in an ongoing feud between Kimmel and Trump, with the former president previously calling on ABC to remove the late-night host following controversy tied to jokes made ahead of the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.
Elsewhere, former President Barack Obama marked Star Wars Day alongside Hamill in a separate video promoting the upcoming opening of the Obama Presidential Center.

In the clip, Obama described the project as “much more than a museum,” framing it as a campus intended to bring people together.
“It is an entire campus built to empower you. A place to come together, get inspired, and become a Force — for change,” Obama said before pausing. “See what I did there?”
“Strong, the dad jokes are,” Hamill replied. “That’s perfect!”
In another exchange, Hamill jokingly pretended to reach out using the Force, prompting Obama to respond from inside the center.
“Mark, I told you you have to stop contacting me like this,” Obama said.
The video ended with a promotion for tickets to the center’s June 19 opening, which are set to go on sale Wednesday.
