Shane Gillis fired back after Chelsea Handler accused him and comedian Tony Hinchcliffe of being offensive over Netflix’s “The Roast of Kevin Hart.”
“This is a big moment for Chelsea,” Gillis told Variety. “I am glad she’s capitalizing. Good for her. We’re all rooting for her.”
“Anyway, come see me July 17th at the football stadium in Philly.”
The sharp response landed just hours after Handler unloaded on Gillis and Hinchcliffe during an appearance on the podcast “Funny Knowing You,” where she complained the roast crossed the line into ugly racial humor.
Chelsea Handler goes OFF on Tony Hinchcliffe & Shane Gillis for making “racist” jokes at the Kevin Hart Roast and claims White people should NOT be joking about Black people in that kind of way since its equivalent to joking about r-pe 😳

“It’s just everything we know: that they’re racist, that they’re bigots, that they’re sexist,” Handler said. “That they think they’re invincible.”
The former late-night host specifically attacked a joke Gillis made about Kevin Hart’s height during the special.
Gillis joked Hart was “so short, you’d have to lynch him from a bonsai tree.”
🇺🇸🇵🇸 Shane Gillis at the Netflix Roast of Kevin Hart calls out Chelsea Handler for being a ZIonist Epstein associate:
"Chelsea is a Zionist.. speaking of dead kids, she's a big fan of abortions. Chelsea's been scrapped more times than the grill at Benihana… speaking of tossing… pic.twitter.com/7VbqL5zxeO

Handler argued the joke should never have made it into the roast.
“It was gross,” she said. “I don’t find those jokes to be funny — jokes about lynching black people. Lynching is not a joke. That’s worse than rape. You know you can’t do that, but you can say ‘lynching’?”
Tony Hinchcliffe made a WILD George Floyd joke while roasting Kevin Hart 💀

Handler also attacked Gillis over jokes involving roast participant Sheryl Underwood’s husband, who died by suicide in 1990.
“I found them making fun of Sheryl Underwood’s dead husband who committed suicide [gross],” Handler said.
“If she says she’s fine with that, she’s fine with that. I wasn’t fine with that.” she added. “I thought that was disgusting, too.”

But the criticism quickly started falling apart after Underwood herself publicly defended Gillis.
Hours after Handler’s podcast appearance aired, Gillis released a podcast episode featuring Underwood as a guest.
Underwood made clear she approved the jokes beforehand. “Sometimes humor is the thing,” Underwood told Gillis. “It’s the most uncomfortable humor that lessens the tension and the stress.”
Sheryl Underwood reunites with Shane Gillis after the Kevin Hart roast and explains why she did NOT get offended by the jokes he made about her late husband, saying humor can be one of the best ways to cope with grief and tragedy 👏🔥👀

Kevin Hart also celebrated the roast afterward and praised the comics for refusing to hold back.
“That, my friend, is what the f*ck a roast is supposed to be — hard-hitting, relentless jokes,” Hart said in an Instagram video following the event.
The backlash only escalated after Handler shifted her attention toward former reality star Spencer Pratt and his growing Los Angeles mayoral campaign.
In a profanity-laced Instagram video Friday, Handler mocked Pratt while warning voters not to treat him like a serious political candidate.
“If you’re seeing this video, this is a reminder that a straight, white male former reality star that has no previous experience in government should not be a legitimate political candidate,” Handler said.
“Have we learned anything yet? The bar is on the f*****g floor, people, and I need you to jump over it.”
The video also doubled as a promotion for Handler’s canned Vodka Lemonade brand partnership with Owl’s Brew.
Pratt wasted little time responding. Rather than posting his own attack video, Pratt shared a clip of Gillis roasting Handler over her past connection to Jeffrey Epstein.
“Most of you have probably never heard of Chelsea Handler, so here’s an introduction!” Pratt wrote on X.
In the resurfaced roast clip, Gillis reminded the audience Handler once attended a dinner at Epstein’s Manhattan townhouse.

“Speaking of tossing tiny shrimp into a child’s mouth, Chelsea Handler went to dinner at Jeffrey Epstein’s house in 2010,” Gillis joked.
The joke referenced Handler’s own public admission years earlier that she attended a dinner party at Epstein’s home.
Handler previously told actor Rob Lowe on his podcast that she only met Epstein one time.
“It wasn’t like a big party, there were like seven people there,” Handler said.
She also claimed she never visited Epstein’s private island or flew on his plane.
“I’ve never been on the private island and I’ve never been on his plane,” Handler said. “I’ve met him one time and that was the time.”
Gillis’ feud with Handler was not the only controversy to erupt from Hart’s roast.
“Saturday Night Live” star Michael Che also exploded publicly after the event while criticizing the writers behind the special.
Che mocked the racial tone of many of the jokes in a series of Instagram posts.
Pete Davidson made a joke about Charlie Kirk’s assassination when roasting Tony Hinchcliffe before calling Ye a “gay Nazi.”
“Tony reminds me of Charlie Kirk, and that’s he’s definitely been on camera letting a guy unload in his throat.”

“White guys and black people joke different,” Che wrote. “Black guy roast like, ‘look at this nigga shoes!’”
“White roasts are like, ‘Slavery, math, slain teens, sex crimes, slurs, family secrets,” he added.
Che appeared particularly miffed by how many racial jokes made it into a roast celebrating one of the most successful Black comedians in America.
“Let’s do a roast celebrating the career of the most successful black comic in the last 10 years,” Che wrote. “I love that! Who should we get to write it?”
Che then posted a photograph identifying several white writers involved with the production.
“C’monnnnnnnnn… that’s not funny?” he added.
The Netflix special generated headlines almost immediately because of how aggressively comics pushed racial humor, sex jokes and personal attacks.
In addition to Gillis’ bonsai-tree joke, Hinchcliffe made a George Floyd joke and compared Hart’s behavior during a private plane altercation to “ninjas.”
Pete Davidson also referred to Kanye West as a “gay nazi” during the roast.
