Nicki Minaj says Gavin Newsom’s silence during a terrifying swatting ordeal helped drive her directly toward Donald Trump.
The rap superstar revealed in a new interview with Time that repeated fake emergency calls targeting her Los Angeles mansion left her frightened and desperate for help.
But when she publicly reached out to California’s Democratic governor, she says she got nothing back.
“He just completely ignored me, with all the money I spent in taxes,” Minaj said.
🚨 WOW! Nicki Minaj has just revealed that she went full pro-Donald Trump MAGA mode because Gov. Gavin Newsom COMPLETELY IGNORED her when she was the victim of SWATTING calls
But then Rep. Luna (R) gave her assistance!

The rapper explained that multiple swatting incidents at her home in 2022 and 2023 left her increasingly shaken.
According to Minaj, she publicly asked Newsom for help after the incidents escalated. She said he never responded.
The experience appears to have fundamentally changed how the rapper viewed Democratic politicians.

At the time, Minaj had already flirted publicly with Republican politics, particularly during the COVID vaccine backlash that turned her into an unlikely culture-war lightning rod.
But she had not fully aligned herself with Trump-world figures. That changed after another swatting scare in 2025.

This time, Minaj said help came from Republican Rep. Anna Paulina Luna.
According to the rapper, the Florida congresswoman personally reached out after learning about the latest incident and connected Minaj with both federal law enforcement and a private security company.
“I was shocked,” Minaj recalled. “I’d never seen anyone in politics treat me that way.”

Minaj said the contrast between Luna’s response and Newsom’s silence pushed her to become much more open about her support for President Donald Trump.
“Many celebrities feel the way I do,” Minaj pointed out. “But they don’t say it.”
“Sometimes you just need one brave person to get the brunt of the impact,” she continued. “I think I am the catalyst for that change.”
The rapper also suggested Hollywood figures secretly support Trump but are terrified of saying so publicly.

“Hopefully when they see me and hear me speak and feel my energy,” Minaj said, “that will make them say, ‘You know what: Who am I afraid of? What am I afraid of?’”
Minaj’s comments instantly reignited her reputation as one of entertainment’s most unpredictable celebrity political voices.
The rapper has spent years colliding with progressives, media figures and even fellow musicians over politics, vaccines and race.
Her feud with the political left exploded in 2021 after she questioned COVID vaccine mandates and shared a story about a cousin’s friend in Trinidad allegedly suffering swollen testicles after vaccination.
The post triggered international headlines, White House outreach and widespread mockery online.
Rather than back down, Minaj leaned harder into the controversy. Since then, she has increasingly embraced conservative figures and causes.

In December 2025, she appeared alongside Erika Kirk, the widow of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, during a Turning Point USA event.
The same month, she took to social media to slam Newsom, saying he wants to “see trans kids.”
Newsom appeared on a podcast with Ezra Klein of The New York Times and discussed his stance on trans politics.
“I want to see trans kids,” he said. “I have a trans godson. There’s no governor who has signed more pro-trans legislation than I have. No one has been a stronger advocate for the LGBTQ community.”
In response, Minaj criticized the governor’s approach, writing in one X post, “Oh Gavvy pooh, it only gets worse from here for you, buddy. It’s the end of the road for you, my love,” while sharing an image of the Chucky character from the Child’s Play film franchise.
She added, “Get on the nearest jet ski & let that beautiful hair blow in the wind. It will make you happier than this race that you will not win. Enjoy life. Peace.”
Minaj continued her colorful commentary in a second post, writing, “Gavin is the cute boy who got everything handed to him b/c of how cute & sexy & hot & smoking he was. Oohhh look @’m. Sitting there in that suit with the sneakers on.”
Imagine being the guy running on wanting to see trans kids. Haha. Not even a trans ADULT would run on that. Normal adults wake up & think they want to see HEALTHY, SAFE, HAPPY kids.

“He thinks he’s Tom Cruise only difference is, his next mission IS impossible,” she sniped. “He should get another leading role.”
Minaj also used the Time interview to swipe at former President Barack Obama while discussing Obama’s longtime friendship with Jay-Z.
“I think Jay-Z ended up costing Obama a lot, whether he knows it or not,” Minaj stated. “Lots of rappers don’t like Jay-Z and were afraid to say it.”
The comments landed at an especially rough moment for Newsom, who has spent recent weeks battling criticism from both conservatives and mainstream media outlets as speculation surrounding a 2028 presidential run intensifies.
The California governor lashed out this week after a City Journal report claimed inmates on death row were using taxpayer-funded prison tablets to access pornography and communicate inappropriately with people outside prison walls.
Newsom spent nearly $200 million to modernize life at San Quentin, while law-abiding Californians struggle to pay their bills.

The report quoted prisoners who allegedly described ways inmates bypass restrictions built into the devices.
One serial killer reportedly told the outlet he alternated between family videos and pornography clips.
Another inmate allegedly used a tablet to communicate with and sexually exploit a minor.
Newsom’s office furiously denied the allegations. “This is flat-out FALSE,” the governor’s press office posted online.

“This MAGA nonprofit provides ZERO evidence for its outrageous claims.”
The office insisted the tablets are “tightly controlled education tools” meant to provide rehabilitation and family communication resources.
At nearly the same time, Newsom was hit with fresh criticism after The Washington Post editorial board mocked a new California diaper-assistance initiative for parents.
The program provides families with 400 free diapers after leaving the hospital.
The Post accused Newsom of expanding a “nanny state” ahead of an expected White House run.
“Newsom, preparing a 2028 presidential bid, seems determined to build a cradle-to-grave social welfare state,” the editorial board wrote.
Newsom defended the initiative by arguing California families are struggling financially.

“California is taking on the cost of raising a family head-on,” Newsom said.
But the governor’s office later escalated the fight with a social media post that sounded strikingly similar to Trump-style online trolling.
“It’s called Newsom Derangement Syndrome,” the account posted.
“It’s an increasingly common affliction with beltway elitists sucking up to MAGA oligarchs.”
