The White House trolled President Donald Trump’s “No Kings” critics with a photo of Trump standing beside King Charles III, captioning the image “two Kings” as the British monarch visited Washington.
The jab landed after protesters across the country used “No Kings” as a slogan to jeer at the Trump administration, accusing the president of trying to expand his power.
Trump sneered at the label during a “60 Minutes” interview with Norah O’Donnell. “I’m not a King, if I was a King, I wouldn’t be dealing with you,” Trump remarked.
The slogan resurfaced after the shooting at the White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner, tying the protests more directly to the fallout from the attack.

Trump blamed the attack on recent “No Kings” demonstrations, while reports said the suspect had attended a “No Kings” protest in California and posted anti-Trump rhetoric online.
Republicans quickly turned the phrase back on Democrats when King Charles addressed a joint meeting of Congress and drew applause from lawmakers who had previously backed or echoed the anti-Trump slogan.
“So, what happened to ‘No Kings,’” the Republican National Committee wrote on X, posting a screenshot of Democrats applauding the monarch.

Rep. Wesley Hunt of Texas piled on with a video contrasting Democrats staying seated during Trump’s State of the Union address with Democrats standing during King Charles’ speech.
“Democrats ‘standing,’ at the SOTU for President Trump vs. Democrats standing during King Charles III’s speech,” Hunt wrote.
“The politics of hypocrisy. The next time a ‘NO KINGS,’ protest rolls through a town near you, show them this.”

King Charles used his address to Congress to call for closer cooperation between the United States and the United Kingdom, warning that shared values cannot survive on ceremony alone.
“The challenges we face are too great for any one nation to bear alone,” he stated.
“But in this unpredictable environment, our alliance cannot rest on past achievements, or assume that foundational principles simply endure.”

The king later shifted from formal diplomacy to dry humor during a state dinner hosted by Trump and First Lady Melania Trump, where he joked about the two countries’ long and sometimes violent history.
Both Trump and Charles leaned into the countries’ shared past as the dinner marked the first state dinner of Trump’s second term and was tied to America’s upcoming 250th birthday.
Charles called the evening “a very considerable improvement on the Boston Tea Party.”
He also joked about Britain’s burning of the White House during the War of 1812, when commenting about Trump’s recent work on the East Wing.

“I’m sorry to say that we British, of course, made our own small attempt at real estate redevelopment of the White House in 1814,” King Charles quipped.
The monarch also picked up on Trump’s claim that European countries would be speaking German if not for the United States.
“Dare I say it, if it wasn’t for us, you’d be speaking French,” Charles said, drawing laughter from Trump and guests in the room.

King Charles then unveiled a personal gift for the president: a large gold bell from the Conning Tower of HMS Trump, a Royal Navy submarine that fought in the Pacific during World War II.
“May it stand as a testament to our nations’ shared history and shining future,” Charles said.
He capped the gift presentation with a joke. “And should you ever need to get hold of us, well, just give us a ring,” Charles quipped.

The king also addressed the attempted attack at the correspondents’ dinner, condemning violence near the seat of American power.
“We meet, too, in the aftermath of the incident not far from this great building, that sought to harm the leadership of your nation, and to ferment wider fear and discord,” Charles remarked. “Let me say with unshakable resolve, such acts of violence will never succeed.”

Trump praised Charles’ speech before the dinner began, telling guests on the South Lawn that the king had impressed him. “He made a great speech,” Trump said. “I was very jealous.”
During his toast, Trump returned to the moment that drew Republican mockery online: Democrats standing for the monarch.
“I want to congratulate Charles on having made a fantastic speech today at Congress,” Trump said. “He got the Democrats to stand. I’ve never been able to do that.”

The dinner drew a long list of prominent guests, including New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft, Apple CEO Tim Cook, Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez.
Conservative media personalities were also in attendance, including Ainsley Earhardt, Laura Ingraham, Chris Ruddy, Jesse Watters and Greg Gutfeld.
Golf star Rory McIlroy and his wife Erica Stoll were among the guests as well, giving Trump another chance to break from his prepared remarks.
The president interrupted himself during the toast to praise McIlroy’s Masters victory, describing the win as an example of “unconquerable courage.”

“Stand up, Rory,” Trump said. “That was unconquerable courage. That was very good, Rory.”
Trump said he had watched McIlroy win a difficult tournament and wanted to recognize him in the room.
“I don’t know if that helps them talk about how wonderful the speech is but I had to interrupt my speech because I watched that man win a tournament that was tough,” Trump said. “That was a tough one. Congratulations. Very proud of you.”
After the aside, Trump turned back to the prepared toast. “Alright, now I’ll get back to my speech, Rory.”
