President Donald Trump revealed to his supporters that First Lady Melania Trump is not a fan of what has become one of his signature dance moves at rallies.
Trump said his wife has repeatedly urged him to stop dancing to The Village People’s “Y.M.C.A.” at the end of events, describing her distaste for his moves to “the gay national anthem” while addressing a crowd at The Villages retirement community in Florida.
“She hates when I dance, too, at the end,” Trump told the audience, drawing laughter. “She hates when I dance to what’s sometimes referred to as the gay national anthem. You know that? She hates it.”
He described it as something that comes up all the time between them, with Melania telling him to cut it out while he keeps doing it anyway.

“But she goes, ‘Darling, please –’ you know she’s a very elegant woman – she goes, ‘Darling, please don’t dance. It’s not presidential,’” Trump recounted. “I said, ‘It may not be presidential, but I’m leading by 20 points in the polls or something.’”
The dance, which has become a recognizable feature of Trump’s appearances, has extended beyond rallies, with supporters and even athletes mimicking the moves during celebrations.
Trump also brought up the song’s chart history, but his version of how it climbed doesn’t match how it actually performed when it first came out in 1978.
🚨 NOW: President Trump just broke out into an energetic YMCA DANCE to a packed The Villages, Florida crowd
He's going off, and added the golf swing 🤣

“You know, that song was No. 5, 32 years ago, and it went to No. 1, 32 years later,” he said. “There’s never been anything like it. It never hit No. 1. It was No.5, 32 years ago. And it went No. 1 for months during the last months of the game.”
“Y.M.C.A.” peaked out at Number 2 on the Billboard charts during it’s initial release. Despite the discrepancy, Trump knows all that matters is that his supporters connect with The Village People’s hit single.

“We love that song,” Trump added.
Trump’s use of “Y.M.C.A.” has shifted over time, with the band behind the track responding differently across multiple election cycles.
The Village People initially signaled approval during the 2020 campaign, writing in a February 2020 Facebook post that Trump had used their music respectfully and stayed within acceptable boundaries.
🪖Nine battle-tested candidates are ready to strike a decisive blow — but only if they get the support they need right now. 🪖 Join the grassroots push to protect the House Majority and back them today! ➡️➡️➡️ Make a 9X impact!!! 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
That stance changed months later following the administration’s response to Black Lives Matter protests.
“I ask that you no longer use any of my music at your rallies, especially ‘Y.M.C.A.’ and ‘Macho Man.’ Sorry, but I can no longer look the other way,” singer Victor Willis wrote in a June 2020 Facebook post.
The position shifted again during the 2024 campaign, when Willis said the campaign had secured proper licensing and that the song had generated significant revenue as a result.
“Therefore, I’m glad I allowed the president-elect’s continued use of ‘Y.M.C.A.’ And I thank him for choosing to use my song,” Willis wrote, while also disputing the idea that the track should be labeled as a gay anthem.
The relationship between the campaign and the group reached a public peak the night before Trump’s January 2025 inauguration, when the Village People performed the song live with Trump on stage during a victory rally.
“Our performances are not an [endorsement] of the president-elect’s policies,” Willis said at the time.
Trump’s remarks about the dance came alongside a series of social media posts that drew viral attention over the weekend.
Late Saturday, he shared an AI-generated image depicting himself floating in the Reflecting Pool on the National Mall, seated in a gold-colored inflatable alongside Vice President JD Vance, who appeared giving a thumbs-up.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Interior Secretary Doug Burgum were also depicted in the image, with the Lincoln Memorial visible in the background.
The Reflecting Pool itself has been undergoing maintenance work, including repainting the surface with a protective coating ahead of upcoming national celebrations tied to the country’s 250th anniversary.
The project, which officials said would take roughly one week, is intended to address leaks and prevent more extensive repairs.
Trump: I have probably built more than 100 swimming pools in different buildings I built, I said, think of it as a swimming pool—2200 ft by 167 ft wide. It's a reflecting pool and very famous, very famous. I said, Doug, I have a guy who's unbelievable at doing swimming pools up… pic.twitter.com/PIip2gpfPH

An unidentified woman also appeared in the image, partially submerged in the water, prompting speculation online about her identity.
“Who’s the brunette supposed to be? Please dear God I hope not [Laura] Loomer,” one user wrote.
Another comment hilariously suggested a different identity entirely. “The brunette is clearly Kristy Noem’s husband,” another user wrote.
Trump followed the image with additional posts, including a meme-style graphic showing him holding a deck of Uno cards made entirely of wild cards, captioned with a short message asserting his dominance.

“I have all the cards,” he wrote.
In another image, Trump appeared inserted alongside figures carved into Mount Rushmore, placing himself among legendary presidents Theodore Roosevelt, Thomas Jefferson, George Washington and Abraham Lincoln.
He later turned his commentary to renovations to the Reflecting Pool, comparing the current project’s speed and budget with earlier work completed during former President Barack Obama’s administration.

“This is what our Country was before, and after, ‘TRUMP!’” he wrote in a post comparing images of the Trump-era clear water, to the brown, algae infested water of Obama’s presidency.
Trump noted that the current renovation as significantly cheaper and faster than previous efforts, pointing to his own approach to selecting contractors.
“I have a guy who’s unbelievable at doing swimming pools up the road,” he said while discussing how the work was arranged.

He also described initial ideas for the pool’s appearance as turquoise-colored “like in the Bahamas,” before settling on the final “American flag blue” design his contractor came up with.
“You’re going to end up with a beautiful, beautiful reflecting pool,” Trump said, “the way it’s supposed to be, much better than it ever was.”
