Amazon is exploring whether to bring back “The Apprentice,” the reality series that helped turn Donald Trump into a household name, with internal discussions raising the possibility of Donald Trump Jr. stepping in as host if the project moves forward.
The talks remain early and have not extended beyond the company, according to people familiar with the discussions.
No outreach has been made to the Trump family, and the project is not currently in development.
Still, the idea reflects Amazon’s continued interest in leveraging legacy properties tied to its acquisition of MGM’s film and television catalog in 2022, which included rights to “The Apprentice.” The company shares ownership of the franchise with Trump’s production company.

Trump originally hosted the show for 14 seasons during its run on NBC from 2004 to 2015, with the program becoming one of the network’s most recognizable hits and reshaping his public image well before his entry into politics.
The series continues to generate income for Trump years after it left the air. Financial disclosures show the show produced between $100,000 and $1,000,000 in royalties in 2024.
“Since our acquisition of MGM, we have had preliminary internal discussions about what’s next for ‘The Apprentice’ as a property,” an Amazon spokesperson said in a statement to the Wall Street Journal.

Separate reporting indicated there have been no conversations outside the company about reviving the show, reinforcing that any potential reboot remains at the idea stage.

Executives inside Amazon MGM Studios have discussed the concept intermittently, including conversations that began around the time Trump was sworn in for his second term, according to people familiar with the matter.
The streaming giant has been expanding its original programming as competition intensifies across platforms, with Netflix and other services continuing to invest heavily in new content.
That push has included projects tied to Trump’s orbit. Earlier this year, Amazon released “Melania,” a documentary following first lady Melania Trump during the opening weeks of the president’s second term.
The film, directed by Brett Ratner, drew criticism but delivered strong initial numbers, posting a $7 million domestic opening — the best debut for a non-fiction feature in the past decade.
Amazon executives have also explored programming aimed at audiences aligned with Trump’s political base.
That effort has included faith-based content such as “House of David,” produced with the independent studio Wonder Project.
The possibility of a revived “Apprentice” would fit into that broader strategy, given the show’s longstanding connection to Trump and his supporters.
Trump himself has continued to reference the show’s impact. In a recent Truth Social post, he highlighted ratings from the first season, pointing to the program’s early success.
He has also weighed in on potential successors. After stepping away from the series in 2015 to run for president, Trump said he told NBC that Ivanka Trump would have been his preferred replacement.
“I said, ‘The best person to hire would be Ivanka Trump,’” he said. “I didn’t press it. But I felt Ivanka would have been by far the best person you could hire.”
Donald Trump Jr. has remained active in public life alongside his brother Eric, occasionally drawing headlines outside the business and political sphere.
In April, Hunter Biden floated the idea of a cage match involving Trump Jr. and Eric Trump during a video tied to YouTuber Andrew Callaghan’s “Carnival” tour.

I'd pay to see that tbh.

“I think he’s trying to organize a cage match, me versus Eric and Don Jr. I told him I’d do it, 100% in, if he can pull it off,” Biden said in the clip.
Callaghan later suggested the remark was likely made in jest but added he would facilitate the match if all parties agreed.
Trump Jr.’s personal life has also drawn attention. He became engaged to Bettina Anderson in December 2025, with the couple recently hosting a bridal shower at Mar-a-Lago.
Plans for a larger celebration remain unsettled. People familiar with the situation said a formal wedding event could be delayed due to global developments, with some discussion about whether a White House celebration would be appropriate.

“They will have a celebration at the due time, at the White House,” one source said. “But they’re waiting for the right moment because of what’s happening in the world.”
Another person said the timing is still uncertain.
“They’re waiting… they may have a very, very intimate celebration… just family members,” the source said.
Separate reports indicate Trump has no plans to host the event at the White House, with logistical issues and ongoing construction cited as factors.
Renovations tied to a planned ballroom have also complicated scheduling, according to those familiar with the situation.
