Democrats are under fire for refusing to stand in honor of President Donald Trump’s special guests during his speech to Congress, including a 13-year-old boy battling a rare form of cancer.
Their lack of enthusiasm, particularly in response to the emotional moment, has sparked backlash from conservatives who see it as yet another example of left-wing hostility and pettiness.
During Trump’s address, he shared the stories of several individuals who have faced heartbreaking tragedies or shown remarkable resilience.
As the families of these victims were recognized, nearly the entire chamber stood in a show of respect—except for many Democrats, who stubbornly remained seated, refusing to join in the bipartisan moment of recognition.

One of the most touching moments of the evening was when Trump spoke about DJ Daniels, a young boy whose lifelong dream was to serve in law enforcement.
Tragically, in 2018, he was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of brain and spine cancer.
Seated in the president’s guest box with his father, Daniels was met with thunderous applause as Trump told his inspiring story.
Despite undergoing 13 surgeries by the age of 12, DJ continues to fight bravely against the disease.
“Tonight, DJ Daniel, we are going to do you the biggest honor of them all. I am asking our new Secret Service director, Sean Curran, to officially make you an agent of the United States Secret Service.” –President Donald J. Trump 🇺🇸 pic.twitter.com/JG38AUYMqj

“He has always dreamed of becoming a police officer,” Trump told the crowd. “But in 2018, DJ was diagnosed with brain cancer. The doctors gave him five months at most to live. That was more than six years ago. Since that time, DJ and his dad have been on a quest to make his dream come true.”
As Trump pointed to Daniels in the gallery, he announced that the boy would be made an honorary member of the Secret Service, prompting an outpouring of cheers and a standing ovation from much of the room.
However, many Democrats refused to join in, sitting silently as the moment unfolded.
Donald Trump Jr. did not hold back his disgust at their behavior. “If you can’t stand up and cheer for a kid with brain cancer being made an honorary member of the Secret Service, then you might be a deeply disturbed and f***ed up person!!!” he wrote on X.
Wow. What a powerful statement from 13-year-old DJ Daniel.
God Bless him.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt also slammed the Democrats for their behavior, calling it yet another display of their animosity.
“Democrats reminded us they are the party of insanity and hate — they could not even clap for a child,” she posted on X.
Adding to the controversy, MSNBC hosts Rachel Maddow and Nicole Wallace took issue with DJ’s recognition, responding with a bizarre and appalling take.
Wallace, while briefly expressing happiness for Daniels, then quickly pivoted to attacking Trump by bringing up the events of January 6, 2021.
“I hope he’s alive for another 95 years and I hope he lives the life he wants to live,” Wallace began. “He wants to be a cop, he knows what he wants to do and maybe when you have childhood cancer that crystallizes for you.”
This is genuinely the most repulsive comment I’ve heard in a very long time from anyone on television.

Then, taking a disturbing turn, she added, “I hope he has a long life as a law enforcement officer, but I hope he never has to defend the United States Capitol against Donald Trump’s supporters, and if he does, I hope he isn’t one of the six who loses his life to suicide.”
She also suggested that Daniels might one day be forced to “testify against the people who carried out acts of seditious conspiracy and then lives to see Donald Trump pardon those people.”
Maddow, appearing visibly emotional, attacked Trump for recognizing the young cancer survivor, claiming that he was using the boy’s illness as a political stunt.
“For the record, and this is disgusting, the president made a spectacle out of praising a young man who thus far has survived pediatric cancer, as if the president had something to do with that,” she said.
Trump also honored the families of Laken Riley, a Georgia nursing student murdered by an illegal immigrant, and Jocelyn Nungaray, a 12-year-old girl who was similarly sexually assaulted and killed by criminals who had unlawfully entered the country.
Jocelyn Nungaray will never be forgotten.

Jocelyn’s mother, Alexis, was among Trump’s guests for the evening. In a powerful tribute, Trump announced that the Anahuac National Wildlife Refuge would be renamed the “Jocelyn Nungaray National Refuge” in honor of the young girl’s memory.
“The death of this beautiful 12-year-old girl and the agony of her mother and family touched our entire nation greatly,” Trump said.
“Alexis, I promised that we would always remember your daughter, your magnificent daughter, and earlier tonight, I signed an order keeping my word to you.”
Noting Jocelyn’s love of animals, Trump detailed the newly renamed wildlife sanctuary in Chambers County, Texas.

“Across Galveston Bay, from where Jocelyn lived in Houston, you will find a magnificent national wildlife refuge—a pristine, peaceful, 34,000-acre sanctuary for all of God’s creatures on the edge of the Gulf of America,” Trump stated.
“Alexis, moments ago, I formally renamed that refuge in loving memory of your beautiful daughter, Jocelyn.”
Despite the overwhelmingly emotional nature of these tributes, Democrats refused to acknowledge Trump’s gestures, opting instead to remain stone-faced and silent.
As America watched the event unfold, it became clear once again which party stands for respect, patriotism, and unity—and which party refuses to stand at all.
