ESPN’s Adam Schefter confirmed the Philadelphia Eagles are eager for a White House visit after their Super Bowl victory over the Kansas City Chiefs, on the heels of the internet erupted with jeers at a report to the contrary.
Schefter squashed swirling rumors on Monday that the Eagles turned down an invite from President Donald Trump’s administration.
The speculation had gained traction across social media over the weekend, with fans threatening to boycott the team.
“To those wondering: Eagles sources say the team is planning on visiting the White House this off-season and looks forward to receiving its invitation,” Schefter wrote on X. Notably, it seems no official offer from the White House has been sent yet.

The rumors reportedly originated from a Sun article with a provocative headline, “SUPER SNUB Philadelphia Eagles make major decision over White House invitation post Super Bowl win following past Donald Trump snub.”
This article was then shared by the Philadelphia Eagles Nation account on X, claiming, “According to ‘a well-placed insider,’ discussions between #Eagles players and their front office resulted in a ‘massive no’ when asked if they would accept an invitation to the White House to honor their Super Bowl Victory, per @TheSun.”
Social media blew up, chastising the Eagles for once again skipping out on the honor. Conservative commentator Megyn Kelly vented, “GO F YOURSELVES EAGLES. My husband is a fan so I got onboard but F this BS.”

Another user fumed, “You know what, I will never support that team again. F**k the Eagles.”
Someone else added, “Wow, that is absolutely shameful. I rooted for them against the Chiefs, but like you said, never again. At least some of the Chiefs players have shown support for Trump.”
Expressing frustration over the NFL, the post continued, “NFL thinks it’s invincible. Combine this with all the shady calls the past season and don’t be surprised if people start to tune out.”
Amid the backlash, Philadelphia Eagles Nation later declared that the Sun’s report was inaccurate.
A tweet referencing Schefter and another post by NFL insider Ian Rappaport clarified the situation.
“The #Eagles would be honored to visit The White House, team sources say after conversations today,” the post read. “It’s one of the aspects of winning they are excited about and look forward to receiving the invitation.”

The same account continued to share updates, including a report from NBCSPhilly, “The Eagles are planning to visit the White House to celebrate their Super Bowl LIX victory this offseason if invited, a source confirms.
The Eagles did not visit after winning Super Bowl LII; that invitation was technically rescinded the night before.”
Politico also weighed in, citing an unnamed White House official who dismissed claims that the Eagles declined the invite.
This year’s development draws comparisons to the 2018 Super Bowl LII victory, when the Eagles chose not to visit the White House amidst a heated debate around national anthem protests.
At the time, Trump issued a statement saying, “The Philadelphia Eagles are unable to come to the White House with their full team to be celebrated tomorrow.”
“They disagree with their President because he insists that they proudly stand for the National Anthem, hand on heart, in honor of the great men and women of our military and the people of our country,” Trump added at the time.
“The Eagles wanted to send a smaller delegation, but the 1,000 fans planning to attend the event deserve better,” he continued.
“These fans are still invited to the White House to be part of a different type of ceremony – one that will honor our great country, pay tribute to the heroes who fight to protect it, and loudly and proudly play the National Anthem.”
Interestingly, Trump’s comments leading up to Super Bowl LIX this year were surprisingly neutral.
On Truth Social, he posted, “Two great Quarterbacks in this game. Also, an unbelievable running back, and the absolute best tight end in football (Ever!). Incredible coaching!”

He didn’t hold back on sharing one critique, however, targeting the latest NFL kickoff rule.
“If they would only get rid of that really weird looking new Kickoff ‘deal,’ which actually makes football more dangerous, they would be doing everybody, especially the fans, a big favor,” he wrote.
Trump even managed to take a jab at his successor, concluding, “ANYWAY, IT WILL BE A GREAT GAME!!! I’ll be doing the interview, before the game, at 3:00 P.M. There hasn’t been one in four years (Gee, I wonder why?).”
