Dean Cain, one of President Donald Trump’s most vocal supporters in Hollywood, has ignited fierce criticism from fellow celebrities after revealing his decision to enlist as an officer with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
Cain, who publicly backed Trump in all three elections, has not shied away from his controversial new role amid the ongoing crackdown on illegal immigration under the Trump administration.
“I love President Trump. I’ve been friends with him forever. … Trump is actually one of the most empathetic, wonderful, generous people you’ll ever meet,” Cain told Variety last month.
Cain’s ICE enlistment drew immediate ire from Emmy-winning actor and comedian John Leguizamo, 65, who launched a blistering attack on social media.

“What kind of loser volunteers to be an ICE officer?” Leguizamo asked in an August 8 Instagram video. “What a moron. Dean Cain, your pronouns are has/been.”
The Colombia-born actor, a noted advocate for diversity in Hollywood, doubled down in his post caption, writing, “#deancain volunteered to be an ice agent! I got one word for you: LOSER!”
The former “Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman” star announced his decision in an August 5 video shared on his social media channels.
John Leguizamo calls Dean Cain a “loser” for volunteering to be an ICE officer.
He adds that Cain is a “moron” and a “has-been.”
Leguizamo is just projecting, of course.
ICE are heroes. Cain is a patriot.

“I felt it was important to join with our first responders to help secure the safety of all Americans, not just talk about it, so I joined up,” Cain said, as the iconic John Williams “Superman” theme played in the background.
He urged his followers to consider joining ICE, highlighting the agency’s perks like a $50,000 signing bonus, student loan repayment, and improved retirement benefits.
“So, if you want to help save America, ICE is arresting the worst of the worst and removing them from America’s streets. I like that. I voted for that,” Cain said.
“They need your help. We need your help, to protect our homeland and our families.”
The announcement quickly became fodder for late-night hosts and celebrities alike.
“ICE going around there with their masks, throwing people into vans—not popular. And yet, [Donald Trump is] doubling down on unpopular,” Bill Maher remarked on his HBO show.
He noted the recent ICE recruitment push with no age limits, joking, “If you like wearing a mask and throwing people in a van.”

Highlighting the $50,000 signing bonus, Maher quipped, “You could put a porch on your house for that. Good luck to find anyone who would build it, but…”
Turning his attention to Cain, Maher suggested the former Superman actor joined “not because he’s MAGA, he just needs the money.”
He added, “And it works out, he was already living in a van,” before speculating Cain signed up after hearing “lots of migrants were coming into this country and a lot of them were bad actors. He said, ‘Room for one more?’”
John Oliver, host of HBO’s “Last Week Tonight,” piled on with his own barbs during a segment focused on immigration enforcement and President Trump’s promises of mass deportation.
“You know, there’s an old saying in Hollywood: ‘If all you can get is Dean Cain, you are f—ed,’” Oliver said.
🤣 He stole that mask joke from the internet — and he also laughed hysterically when Trump said he was going to run for President. Case closed. 🤣

“Now, I’m not saying that ICE isn’t finding people,” he added, “I’m just saying, when you are reduced to pinning a badge on the 59-year-old star of The Dog Who Saved Christmas, The Dog Who Saved Christmas Vacation, The Dog Who Saved the Holidays, The Dog Who Saved Halloween, The Dog Who Saved Easter and The Dog Who Saved Summer, maybe you are in trouble.”
Oliver joked that Cain had “no need for that guy to wear a mask because the chances of anyone recognizing him are f—ing zero.”
He later commented, “And I recognize that in some cases, you may be unable to help yourself from saying: ‘Didn’t you use to be Superman? I thought you died.’”
So proud of Dean Cain joining ICE. FInally they found somebody who doesn't need a mask because nobody recognizes him. pic.twitter.com/sGb6EcA27O

Cain clapped back at the segment in an early morning post on X. “He stole that mask joke from the internet — and he also laughed hysterically when Trump said he was going to run for President. Case closed,” he wrote, noting that the movies Oliver listed “were sweet.”
Other celebrity jabs followed on various social media platforms. Ana Navarro of “The View” posted a brief dig at Cain’s physique on Instagram, questioning, “This was Superman?”
She suggested Cain “should have joined a gym,” accompanying the comment with a photo of the former star alongside a headline about his ICE enlistment.
Frank Grillo, who has a role in James Gunn’s new Superman film, dismissed Cain in Instagram comments with a mocking “Never was. Hahahahha.”
Comedian Margaret Cho took aim at Cain’s support for ICE given his Japanese heritage.
“Why would you join ICE and encourage people to join ICE when your ancestors were interred in World War II?” Cho asked in a video.

Cain’s father was Japanese American, and the actor has acknowledged his family was held at the Minidoka internment camp during the 1940s.
“You’re Japanese. You’re not even white. I know you, and you are not white,” Cho continued. “You have never been white. And no matter how many of these white activities that you participate in, [it] is never gonna make that happen.”
“You’re never gonna be white, no matter how racist you are, no matter how wrong you act.”
“Glee” alum Kevin McHale dismissed Cain’s ICE ambitions as a desperate publicity stunt.
Look I know the entertainment business is in shambles, but imagine being so out of work and desperate for attention (I would know) that you join ICE? Fucking pathetic loser. https://t.co/mTWCZMfPAV

“Look, I know the entertainment business is in shambles, but imagine being so out of work and desperate for attention (I would know) that you join ICE?” he wrote on X, calling Cain a “F—ing pathetic loser.”
Cain, who has already been sworn in as a reserve deputy sheriff and reserve police officer, doubled down during a recent Fox News appearance.
“I will be sworn in as an ICE agent ASAP,” he said on “Jesse Waters Primetime.”
“This country was built on patriots stepping up, whether it was popular or not, and doing the right thing. I truly believe this is the right thing,” Cain told Fox News.
