Rosie O’Donnell apologized to to Ireland’s prime minister after his White House visit was overshadowed by jokes about her decision to leave the United States.
Last week, Irish Taoiseach Micheál Martin was questioned by a reporter during a joint event celebrating St. Patrick’s Day, who asked why he would let the liberal actress reside in Ireland.
Martin responded with a laugh, but President Donald Trump seized on the moment to take a jab at his long-time nemesis, thanking the reporter and saying he appreciated the question.
Trump then turned to Martin, asking if he was familiar with O’Donnell. When the prime minister appeared to shrug off the inquiry, Trump jokingly reassured him that he was “better off” not knowing who the “A League Of Their Own” star was.

During an interview on Ireland’s Late Late Show, O’Donnell acknowledged the headline-making exchange, calling it a “surreal” moment.
“I felt very troubled that they put the Taoiseach in that position and didn’t treat him with the respect that a leader of that kind deserves when he’s visiting the White House,” she said.
O’Donnell revealed that she took it upon herself to send Martin a note to apologize for putting him in the situation.

“I wrote the Taoiseach with a little note of apology to his email and got a note back that they had received it and thanked me,” she told host Patrick Kielty.
“But I just wanted him to know the history and what happened and why he seems to be out to get me in ways that are startling to most.”
O’Donnell claimed that Trump had held a personal grudge against her for two decades.
“The President of the United States has it out for me and has for 20 years,” she said. “He sort of uses me as a punchline whenever he feels the need.”
Regarding Trump’s continued public criticisms, she remarked, “He’s been doing it for two decades and I’m still not used to it every time he does.”

O’Donnell also took the opportunity to voice her alarm over what she views as an abuse of executive power, suggesting that the Supreme Court had granted Trump “the powers of a king or a monarch.”
She claimed this development was “terrifying” and a threat to American democracy.
O’Donnell also took the opportunity to share a wild conspiracy theory that the 2024 presidential election results might have been rigged.
Rosie O’Donnell went on a late show in Ireland to prove what a bitter, deranged, shrew she is.
She’s also a complete hypocrite. She proudly says how she criticized President Trump while she was on The View.
But the fact she’s criticized back by him is “surreal.”

“I question why for the first time in American history, a president has won every swing state and his largest donor was a man who owns and runs the internet,” she said.
“I would hope that would be investigated,” she continued. “Whether or not it was an anomaly… or something else that happened on election night in America.”
She was also skeptical over the outcome, saying she found it strange that Kamala Harris, then-Vice President, “was filling up stadiums with people who supported her and Donald Trump was not able to do that.”

Earlier this month, O’Donnell made headlines by revealing she had moved to Ireland with her 12-year-old transgender child, Clay, and was actively seeking Irish citizenship. She made clear that her departure was politically motivated.
“When it is safe for all citizens to have equal rights there in America, that’s when we will consider coming back,” she told her audience on TikTok.
“I have a child who has autism and that child will be denied services and many, many autistic children because the funding for these programs for special needs children comes from the federal government as well as the states,” she claimed.
“And it’s going to be disastrous for children on the spectrum. And that was terrifying.”
O’Donnell, now residing in the Irish coastal town of Howth, noted her relief at her family’s transition, saying her child had quickly embraced the culture and felt at home.
“She told me at dinner, ‘Mommy, I like it here better. You can just be a normal person.'”
However, despite settling into Ireland, O’Donnell made it clear she wasn’t done with the United States entirely.
“A large part of me does [want to go back and fight],” she said. “That’s what I’ve done my whole career.”
Her longstanding feud with Trump dates back to 2006, when she criticized him during her time as a panelist on “The View” over his handling of a scandal involving Miss USA winner Tara Conner.
Conner, then 20, had been caught underage drinking but was allowed to keep her crown after Trump, the owner of the pageant, decided to give her a second chance.
O’Donnell mocked Trump’s decision, prompting him to retaliate by calling her “a real loser.”
They sniped at each other for years, but their clash reignited fully in 2015, when Trump announced his candidacy for president.
During a Republican primary debate, then-Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly pressed Trump about derogatory comments he had made about women.
“You’ve called women you don’t like fat pigs, dogs, slobs and disgusting animals,” Kelly stated.

Trump quipped without hesitation: “Only Rosie O’Donnell.”
After Trump’s victory in November, O’Donnell was furious over Time magazine naming him Person of the Year, launching into an expletive-filled tirade on TikTok.
“You equated, you normalized Trump. And that’s what Time Magazine did. Man of the year, Donald Trump. Well, f— you Time Magazine. F— you, seriously,” O’Donnell ranted.
“How about most dangerous man of the year? How about most criminal man of the year? How about the worst president we’ve ever had… of the year,” she complained at the time.
