Vice President Kamala Harris’ former fling Montel Williams didn’t exactly throw his celebrity behind his ex-girlfriend after she moved to the top of the Democratic ticket.
On Sunday, President Joe Biden exited the presidential race after essentially being bullied out by Democrats who doubted his ability to trounce former President Donald Trump in a head-to-head match-up.
Following his withdrawal, Biden endorsed Harris as the lead candidate, and the Democratic Party has fallen in line behind her.
Harris is now poised to secure the Democratic Party’s nomination, with endorsements from other notable Democrat politicians and celebrities bolstering her campaign.
đ¨Iâd love to see @iamwesmoore leading the ticket or otherwise on my ballot and Iâm ready to campaign.
Iâve watched @GovWesMoore lead my home state of Maryland, and I know leadership when I see it. https://t.co/x5YhPg9ahY

However, Williams, a well-known talk show host, didn’t initially back Harris after Biden announced he was dropping out.
After news of Biden’s departure from the campaign broke, Williams threw his support behind Maryland Governor Wes Moore on social media.
“I’d love to see @iamwesmoore leading the ticket or otherwise on my ballot and I’m ready to campaign,” he tweeted.

“I’ve watched @GovWesMoore lead my home state of Maryland, and I know leadership when I see it.”
But Moore was quick to back Harris on Monday, when he lauded her “unique ability to energize the Democratic Party base and mobilize a unique coalition.”
Guys, i hate to ruin your day, but you massively misinterpreted my tweet. I will vote for whomever can beat Trump.

“Kamala Harris will move us forward, toward a brighter future for all,” Moore wrote. “She is the fighter we need at this moment to realize the full promise of our nation.”
Williams ended up sharing Moore’s endorsement post, noting that he did so in separate tweet.
“Reminding folks I RT’d this,” he wrote.
Williams also blasted a TMZ article that accused him of failing to support Harris off the bat.
“Guys, I hate to ruin your day, but you massively misinterpreted my tweet. I will vote for whomever can beat Trump,” he clarified.
Williams has often criticized media coverage of his long over relationship with Harris decades ago.

On Monday, he wrote, “I’ve said what I’m going to say about the thing that keeps trending. My friends in the media should think twice about wasting time on a 20+ year old pictureâyou will find doing so will earn an unpleasant reaction.”
Williams addressed the former fling the first time Harris ran for president in August 2019.
“@KamalaHarris and I briefly dated about 20 years ago when we were both single. So what? I have great respect for Sen. Harris,” he tweeted at the time.

Meanwhile Harris is facing scrutiny for being Biden’s political heir apparent to the Democratic ticket.
Black Lives Matter (BLM) issued a statement urging the Democratic National Committee (DNC) to hold a âvirtual snap primaryâ and blasted the organization for âanointingâ of Harris as the partyâs candidate.

On Tuesday, the group acknowledged that while Biden was not their âpreferred candidate,â they couldn’t âignore the troubling actions of the Democratic Party.â
They insisted that the DNC must conduct a primary nationwide before the Democratic National Convention in August.
Harris has reported secured enough delegates to ensure her nomination as the partyâs presidential candidate.
âWe do not live in a dictatorship,â the organization stated. âDelegates are not oligarchs. Any attempt to evade or override the will of voters in our primary system must be condemned.”
“We demand an informal, virtual snap primary now that the incumbent president is no longer in the running,â the statement continued.
They also want the the Rules Committee to come up with a process that lets the public participate in the nomination process, rather than only the party delegates.
BLM called the situation âunprecedentedâ following Bidenâs withdrawal from the presidential race and decision not to seek re-election.
âThis moment calls for decisive action to protect the integrity of our democracy and the voices of Black voters,â they added.
Conversely, âThe Viewâ co-host Sunny Hostin insisted that critics of Harris stop claiming that she âdidnât earnâ the 2024 presidential nomination.
âYou know what I think? I think that they recognize theyâre in trouble now with Kamala at the head of the ticket,â Hostin argued.
Sunny declares that black voters are a monolith. She claims it's a "fallacy that black men are going to vote for Trump" and "black women are the backbone of the Democratic Party."

She believes that âpitting a former prosecutor against a convicted felonâ will invigorate liberal voters.
Hostin said that it is a âfallacy that black men are gonna vote for Trumpâ because activist group Win With Black Men has already raised over $1 million for Harris. She also thinks that every black woman in the nation will vote for Harris.
âWhat I will say is stop with the âshe didnât earn it,’â Hostin insisted. âStop with the âshe is not qualified.’â
She also said that as a black woman, Harris had to be âtwice as good to get half as far.â
