Former President Barack Obama just laughed off the idea that the federal government could secretly hide proof of aliens from the public.
Now President Donald Trump has ordered the release of hundreds of declassified Pentagon UFO files packed with military footage, witness testimony, FBI memos and unexplained sightings stretching back decades.
The massive document dump landed just months after Obama publicly dismissed theories about hidden alien programs and days after he denied it again during an appearance on CBS’ “The Late Show” with Stephen Colbert.
“For those of you who still think that we’ve gotten little green men underground somewhere, one of the things you learn as president is the government is terrible at keeping secrets,” Obama told Colbert.
The former president argued any real extraterrestrial evidence would have leaked long ago.
“This idea of conspiracy theories — if there were aliens or alien spaceships or anything under the control of the United States government that we knew about, seen, photographs, what have you … I promise you some guy guarding the installation would have taken a selfie with one of the aliens and sent it to his girlfriend to impress her. There would be leaks,” Obama added.
But Friday’s Pentagon release instantly reignited the exact speculation Obama tried to shut down.
NEW: Rep. Tim Burchett says the first drop of UFO files is a "drop in the bucket" compared to the "Holy Crap" moment that is coming.
"The 1st drop will be big but in comparison to what is coming they will be a drop in the bucket. I would say “Holy Crap” is coming," he said.

The Department of Defense published 162 files on a newly launched government UFO website after Trump ordered agencies to begin declassifying records tied to unidentified aerial phenomena, extraterrestrial life and unexplained military encounters.
The release includes FBI reports, NASA material, Department of Defense files, State Department records, military videos and decades of alleged sightings involving strange aircraft and unexplained objects.
Kayleigh McEnany just praised President Trump for finally doing what every previous president refused to do.
She slammed past administrations for burying the UFO Files and said their extreme secretiveness created more hysteria than the sightings themselves.

Trump first teased the move during a rally in Phoenix earlier this year. “I figured this was a good crowd because I know you people. You’re really into that. I don’t know if I am,” Trump joked.
He later revealed he had spoken with Secretary of War Pete Hegseth about the records.

“We found many, very interesting documents,” Trump said.
The president later announced the declassification push on Truth Social.
“Based on the tremendous interest shown, I will be directing the Secretary of War, and other relevant Departments and Agencies, to begin the process of identifying and releasing Government files related to alien and extraterrestrial life, unidentified aerial phenomena (UAP), and unidentified flying objects (UFOs), and any and all other information connected to these highly complex, but extremely interesting and important, matters,” Trump wrote.

The White House framed the release as part of a transparency effort after years of public skepticism.
“Whereas previous Administrations have failed to be transparent on this subject, with these new Documents and Videos, the people can decide for themselves, ‘WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON?’” Trump posted Friday.
The Pentagon said additional files would continue appearing “on a rolling basis.”
According to Pentagon Public Affairs, the public can now access declassified UAP material “instantly” without security clearance.

Friday’s initial release included 120 PDFs, 28 videos and 14 image files. Many of the videos show grainy infrared military footage tracking unidentified objects moving across the sky.
Several reports describe objects performing movements investigators struggled to explain.
One report tied to footage captured in Greece during 2023 described an object making repeated “90-degree turns” while traveling at roughly 80 miles per hour.
Another military recording from the Indo-Pacific described an airborne object shaped like a football.

A separate Syria encounter involved two glowing orange forms appearing briefly before disappearing.
Among the newly public files are FBI records involving an alleged Nazi-built UFO photographed during World War II.
According to one FBI document, a man named Paul Peyerl claimed he secretly photographed the craft in 1944 “at the risk of his life.”
The report described the alleged object as “saucer shaped, about twenty-one feet in diameter.”

“He further described the exterior portion as revolving around the dome in the center which remained stationary,” the FBI file states.
Other documents revisit the infamous 1947 Roswell incident.
One FBI memo details a call from an Air Force major who reportedly informed agents that an object believed to be a “flying disc” had been recovered near Roswell, New Mexico.
“The disc is hexagonal in shape and was suspended from a ball[o]on by cable,” the memo states.
The files also include reports tied to Apollo moon missions.

During a post-flight debrief following Apollo 11, astronaut Buzz Aldrin described seeing “little flashes inside the cabin, spaced a couple of minutes apart” while attempting to sleep.
In another account, Aldrin reported spotting “what appeared to be a fairly bright light source which we tentatively ascribed to a possible laser.”
“The first unusual thing that we saw I guess was one day out or something pretty close to the moon,” Aldrin said. “It had a sizeable dimension to it, so we put the monocular on it.”

Apollo 12 astronaut Alan Bean also reported unexplained “flashes of light” during the 1969 mission.
During Apollo 17, astronauts described seeing “very bright particles” that appeared to tumble and rotate in the distance.
Astronaut Harrison Schmitt compared the scene to “the Fourth of July.”
Obama had already sparked a frenzy earlier this year after telling podcaster Brian Tyler Cohen that aliens were “real.”
“They’re real, but I haven’t seen them,” Obama said during the February interview.

The remark exploded online before Obama later attempted to clarify his comments on Instagram.
“Statistically, the universe is so vast that the odds are good there’s life out there,” Obama wrote.
“But the distances between solar systems are so great that the chances we’ve been visited by aliens is low, and I saw no evidence during my presidency that extraterrestrials have made contact with us. Really!”

Even while dismissing alien cover-up theories, Obama joked that he would gladly represent Earth if extraterrestrials ever arrived.
“First contact, I think I would be a good emissary for the planet,” Obama told Colbert.
“I’ve got some experience at statecraft and diplomacy. I’m friendly. So, I actually think I could do a pretty good job.”
Then Obama shut the door on the speculation once again. “But it hasn’t happened yet,” he said.
