Joe Rogan shut down a claim from actor Steve-O suggesting GOP lawmakers want to place transgender people in internment camps.
The debate unfolded during a recent episode of “The Joe Rogan Experience,” where Steve-O described a conversation with a transgender person who told him they were facing extreme oppression.
The “Jackass” star recounted hearing that some politicians supposedly want to put transgender people into “internment camps,” a claim that immediately drew a skeptical reaction from Rogan.
“I just thought, man, I heard what they had to say about politicians trying to put them in internment camps,” Steve-O recalled.

Rogan quickly pushed back and demanded specifics, asking who exactly was calling for such a move.
“Who’s doing that?” Rogan asked, questioning what politicians had suggested anything resembling camps for transgender people.
“There might be one kook out there trying to get attention,” Rogan remarked, but insisted there is “no movement to try to put transgender people in internment camps.”

The podcaster then pivoted to a different concern he said rarely enters public discussions surrounding transgender issues: violence connected to a handful of high-profile shootings.
Rogan claimed that “trans shooters” had been responsible for several recent attacks and asked Steve-O if he was aware of that pattern.
“Do you know who’s killed more people than ICE this year?” Rogan asked before answering his own question. “Trans shooters.”
He then asserted that several high school shootings in recent years involved transgender attackers.

Steve-O appeared surprised by the comment. “I did not know that,” he responded.
Rogan argued that mental health struggles and medical treatments could be factors in some of those incidents.
He pointed to the use of psychiatric medication and hormone treatments, suggesting that individuals already dealing with psychological challenges may be further destabilized.
“Yeah, it’s a lot of them,” Rogan remarked, adding that many people involved in violent incidents already have “mental struggles” before undergoing medical treatment.
He also suggested social isolation can compound those problems. Rogan said some individuals may begin to believe the world is persecuting them, which can lead to the idea that there is a broader “genocide against trans people.”

The conversation shifted toward cultural debates over gender identity and sports participation.
Rogan pointed to criticism aimed at figures like author J.K. Rowling and tennis legend Martina Navratilova, both of whom have faced backlash for arguing that biological men should not compete in women’s sports.
“They attack J.K. Rowling… they attack Martina Navratilova,” Rogan noted, pointing out that Navratilova has been labeled a “bigot” by critics because she opposes biological males competing against women in tennis.
He framed the debate as a clash between biological definitions of sex and newer concepts of gender identity.
“It’s either you go by biology or you do not,” Rogan argued, describing the alternative as a “gray area” where someone could simply claim they are a woman.

According to Rogan, that ambiguity can create difficult situations in areas like prisons and athletic competition.
Steve-O eventually signaled that Rogan’s arguments had changed his perspective. “Alright, you’ve convinced me,” he replied.
Earlier in the discussion, Steve-O had described meeting a transgender individual whose story left a deep impression on him.
The comedian said the person “described… a level of oppression” that he found heartbreaking.
According to Steve-O, the individual claimed they were “not allowed to use the bathroom” at work.
Rogan disputed the characterization and argued that the issue usually centers on whether a person is using a bathroom that matches their biological sex.
Joe Rogan dragged Steve-O out of his bubble and forced him to confront the truth about transgenderism.

“That’s not true,” Rogan responded, explaining that individuals are typically restricted from using facilities that do not correspond with their biological identity.
Rogan acknowledged that some people genuinely feel they were born in the wrong body.
At the same time, he argued there are cases where men exploit gender identity rules for inappropriate reasons.
“There’s also people that are f—ing perverts,” Rogan said while introducing the concept of “autogynephilia,” which he described as men who become aroused by pretending to be women.

He warned that such individuals could exploit relaxed policies to enter women’s locker rooms or bathrooms.
“You give them a Willy Wonka golden ticket,” Rogan remarked, describing how predators could take advantage of those situations.
Steve-O responded cautiously and acknowledged that the subject is complex.
“I don’t doubt that that’s real,” he said, adding that the conversation is “a super complex, nuanced thing.”
Rogan countered that some elements of the debate are actually straightforward. He pointed to biological markers such as chromosomes as the foundation for determining sex.
Joe Rogan: "Have you ever seen like how people identifying as nonbinary and trans dropped off right after Elon Musk's purchase of Twitter? It's because people got a chance to talk about it, criticize it, put up memes and call it a mental illness again."pic.twitter.com/oTBhhyYSdP

“But here’s what’s not complex,” Rogan argued. “What is your chromosomes?”
He compared the debate to controversies over athletic competition, criticizing what he described as “mental gymnastics” used to justify biological males competing against women.
Steve-O responded simply: “Right.”
Rogan also said rules limiting access to women’s spaces are often intended to protect women rather than punish transgender individuals.
Speaking as a father of daughters, Rogan argued that bad actors exist and policies must account for that possibility.
“There are creeps,” Rogan warned, stressing that his criticism was not directed at all transgender people but at individuals who might abuse the system.
Non binary is diet trans 🤣🤣🤣

He insisted that concerns about predators entering women’s spaces are legitimate and should not be dismissed.
“And by the way, it’s men that are the problem,” Rogan added during the exchange, noting that transgender men entering men’s bathrooms rarely sparks the same controversy.
“No one gives a f— about trans men going into the men’s bathroom,” Rogan remarked. “Come on in. Who cares.”
Steve-O agreed again, responding, “Right.”
Later in the conversation, Rogan summarized his position by arguing that restrictions do not prevent people from using bathrooms entirely but instead regulate which facilities they can enter.
“You can’t say you’re not allowed to use the bathroom where you work,” Rogan explained. “That’s not true.”
Instead, he said the rule simply prevents someone who is biologically male from entering the women’s restroom when other women are present.
Steve-O appeared persuaded by the argument. “You know what, you make a very, very good point,” he admitted.
The conversation echoed similar debates Rogan has hosted on the podcast before.
In a separate episode last year, Rogan spoke with fitness trainer Jillian Michaels about transgender medical treatments for minors.
Michaels described pediatric gender treatments as “the sterilization of kids” and warned that some interventions carry long-term consequences.
“I’m a libertarian,” Michaels explained during the nearly three-hour discussion. “I’m for personal freedoms.”
She said adults should be able to make their own choices about gender identity, stressing she would “fight for your right to do that and live with dignity.”
The debate changes, she argued, when those choices affect children.
Michaels described puberty blockers as the same medications sometimes used for chemical castration of sex offenders.
She warned that the drugs can lead to sterilization and long-term developmental issues.
“They’re freaking children,” Michaels remarked, arguing their bodies are still developing.
She also disputed the common claim that denying gender treatments leads to widespread suicide among transgender youth.
“The data doesn’t bear out to prove that,” Michaels argued, pointing to statistics she said show higher rates of depression and suicidal ideation after transition.
She concluded that some current medical practices resemble a “modern-day lobotomy” and called the procedures a “travesty.”
