Tensions between President Donald Trump and longtime critic Rosie O’Donnell escalated over the weekend after Trump threatened to strip the comedian of her U.S. citizenship.
Trump’s statement drew fierce pushback from one of “The View’s” most vocal panelists.
On Monday’s live broadcast, Ana Navarro, a co-host on the exceedingly liberal daytime show, torched Trump’s warning as both legally impossible and politically motivated.
“Let me just say this: This is not North Korea, this is not a monarchy,” Navarro declared during the show’s opening segment.

“Donald Trump and no president has the authority or jurisdiction to unilaterally take anybody’s citizenship away.”
Navarro, 53, accused Trump of “picking a fight with our former View cohost,” recounting the inflammatory Truth Social post the president made Saturday in which he threatened to revoke O’Donnell’s status as an American citizen.
“Rosie O’Donnell is a natural-born U.S. citizen, born here, born in Long Island in 1962,” she reminded the audience.

“There are very few things a citizen can do to lose their citizenship, and they involve crimes like treason or trying to overthrow the government.”
In a not-so-subtle reference to the January 6 Capitol riot, Navarro quipped, “So if anybody’s got to be careful, it ain’t Rosie.”

She concluded by pointing out that any revocation of citizenship would need to happen via a judicial process.
“Look at the shiny object they’re throwing here,” Navarro added, suggesting the threat was just a distraction from more pressing issues.
The revived feud between O’Donnell and Trump ignited again after the former TV host gave a blistering interview to the Huffington Post in early July.
She labeled Trump a “misogynist and a sexist pig” and criticized the direction of the country under his second term.
“I believe fascism has taken a foothold in the United States,” O’Donnell said.
“With this new bill that allows him to have his own secret police, and the budget for that being greater than the money we give to Israel, which is already unbelievably high—I look at America, and it feels tragic.”
O’Donnell went on to say she feels “overwhelmingly depressed” about the nation’s political climate.
“I don’t understand how we got here,” she told the outlet. “This is what happens when democracies die.”

The controversy erupted Saturday when Trump took to his Truth Social platform to call out the “A League of Their Own” star.
“Because of the fact that Rosie O’Donnell is not in the best interests of our Great Country, I am giving serious consideration to taking away her Citizenship,” he posted.
“She is a Threat to Humanity, and should remain in the wonderful Country of Ireland, if they want her.”
On Sunday, when he was asked about the actress blaming him for being “depressed and drunk,” Trump responded with a smirk, “Rosie’s a mess. She’s a mess, but she left our country — which is a good thing, not a bad thing.”
O’Donnell, who moved to Ireland in March to flee Trump’s second term, fired back online.
Rosie O’Donnell on Donald Trump: “What’s happening is not American. What’s happening with this gestapo, his own SS, funding them in grossly excess ways. You can’t deny his mental decline. He is definitely in a decline and if you can’t see that I don’t know what to tell you.” pic.twitter.com/CfVg14v8NE

“The president of the USA has always hated the fact that I see him for who he is — a criminal con man sexual-abusing liar out to harm our nation to serve himself,” she wrote on Instagram.
“This is why I moved to Ireland — he is a dangerous old soulless man with dementia who lacks empathy, compassion, and basic humanity.”
“I stand in direct opposition [to] all he represents—so do millions of others,” she continued.
“[You] gonna deport all who stand against your evil tendencies? You’re a bad joke who can’t form a coherent sentence.”
O’Donnell escalated her response by posting a series of images and videos to Instagram Stories, including photos of Trump with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

She declared she lived “rent-free” in Trump’s head and signed one post with an Irish flag, daring the president to try and revoke her citizenship.
“Go ahead and try. I’m not yours to silence. I never was,” she captioned the post.
One particularly incendiary image shared on her feed depicted a caricature of Trump with the caption, “He r**es.”
Fellow comedian Ellen DeGeneres, and United States ex-pat, showed solidarity with O’Donnell by writing, “Good for you,” in the comments of her Instagram post.
O’Donnell and Trump have been locked in a highly publicized feud since 2007, when the former View host criticized him on-air, triggering years of insults and name-calling from the future president.

Trump most famously jabbed her during a 2015 GOP primary debate, comparing her to an animal.
In March, O’Donnell finally followed through on her longtime threat to leave the United States, citing what she viewed as the nation’s descent into right-wing extremism.
“There’s no MAGA support here,” she said of her new life in Ireland.
Trump reportedly brought up O’Donnell’s relocation during a White House meeting with Irish Prime Minister Micheál Martin.

“Why in the world would you let Rosie O’Donnell move to Ireland? I think she’s going to lower your happiness levels,” he quipped.
In May, O’Donnell reiterated that she would not return to the U.S. until “this administration is completely finished and hopefully held accountable for their crimes.”
On the Fourth of July, she posted a cryptic video suggesting that left-wing Americans should consider overthrowing the government.
