Trump foe Rosie O’Donnell launched a scathing attack against Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. on Tuesday, calling for his resignation over controversial remarks he made about autism.
O’Donnell, a long-time critic of President Donald Trump, appeared on CNN where she tore into Kennedy for his commentary.
“I think it’s very disrespectful. I think it’s disgraceful, and I think he is wholly unqualified to be the head of Health and Human Services,” she began.
The former panelist on ABC’s “The View” claimed Kennedy’s appointment was another example of what she called a “reality show government.”

“I think most of the cabinet picks that Donald Trump has made are part of his vision of a reality show government, and not the most qualified people available, especially Robert Kennedy,” she said.
Her outrage was in response to Kennedy’s remarks about autism made last week, where he stated, “autism destroys families, and more importantly, it destroys our greatest resource, which is our children.”
Kennedy added that he was referring specifically to severe cases and went on to describe children who would never be able to use the bathroom unassisted, hold a job, or pay taxes.

O’Donnell, who is the mother of a non-binary, autistic child, took particular issue with those comments.
“And to think that his family is the one that created the Special Olympics, and he would go on with such disgraceful, dehumanizing remarks, is absolutely deplorable. And I feel he should resign or be released from his position,” she said.
Kennedy has tasked his department with investigating what he described as an autism “epidemic” and said the government would identify a cause by September.
He has long been controversial for challenging the safety and effectiveness of vaccines, though he insists he is not anti-vaccine.
During his recent statements, Kennedy argued that environmental toxins are driving the increase in autism cases.

“This is coming from an environmental toxin, and somebody made a profit by putting that environmental toxin into our air, our water, our medicines, our food,” Kennedy said.
“And it’s to their benefit to say ‘Oh, to normalize it, to say all this is all normal, it’s always been here.’ That’s not good for our country.”
He continued that narrative later in the week when he declared on social media, “For too long, some food producers have been feeding Americans petroleum-based chemicals without their knowledge or consent.”

“These poisonous compounds offer no nutritional benefit and pose real, measurable dangers to our children’s health and development. That era is coming to an end,” Kennedy posted on X.
He added that the administration is “restoring a gold-standard science, applying common sense, and beginning to earn back the public’s trust.”
He stood alongside FDA Commissioner Marty Makary to announce that petroleum-based food dyes would be eliminated from the food supply, calling the effort part of the “Make America Healthy Again” agenda.
Rosie O’Donnell went on a late show in Ireland to prove what a bitter, deranged, shrew she is.
She’s also a complete hypocrite. She proudly says how she criticized President Trump while she was on The View.
But the fact she’s criticized back by him is “surreal.”

Meanwhile, O’Donnell has been open about her personal journey with her child Clay, whom she referenced in the interview.
“They were really regressing into themselves,” she recalled, noting that the arrival of a therapy dog helped immensely.
Currently living in Ireland, O’Donnell explained that she left the United States following President Trump’s re-election.
“I knew after reading Project 2025 that if Trump got in, it was time for me and my non-binary child to leave the country,” she said.

“I made the decision within my family and my therapist… And then when he did [win], we made the plan into action and we were gone before he was inaugurated.”
She also criticized the broader state of the country under Trump, saying it’s been “heartbreaking” to watch.
O’Donnell’s move to Ireland isn’t the only celebrity departure that caught her attention. She said she was “shocked” to learn Ellen DeGeneres had also left the United States.
“I’ve never really known Ellen to say anything political in her life, so I was surprised to read that she left because of President Trump. Like, that shocked me, actually,” she told US Weekly.
According to reports, DeGeneres and her wife Portia de Rossi relocated to the English countryside, selling off much of their U.S. property.
“I was very clear about the reason why I was leaving, and I don’t think it came as a surprise to anyone,” O’Donnell said.
Touching on her past with DeGeneres, O’Donnell reflected on the tension between the two.
“We’re not really in each other’s worlds, and it’s been kind of awkward but you know what? I wish her the best. I wish that she has peace and love in her life and that she is OK.”
“I don’t want to fight against another gay woman. It’s not like we’re tenaciously opposed to each other,” she added.
“We’re just very different people. We have had some stuff in the past that we never resolved.”
Back in 2022, during an appearance on “Watch What Happens Live,” O’Donnell recounted an incident involving DeGeneres.
“Larry King was on with Ellen and he said ‘What ever happened to Rosie O’Donnell? Her show went down the tubes! She came out as a lesbian and disappeared!'”
“And Ellen said, and I’m quoting, ‘I don’t know Rosie. We’re not friends,'” O’Donnell recalled.
