Liberal actor Michael Douglas lauded former President Donald Trump for staying uncharacteristically silent while the Biden administration implodes in the days since the June 27 debate.
“I think President Trump has been very smart in staying quiet and watching the self-destruction, this cannibalism that’s going on,” he remarked about President Biden’s liberal acolytes.
“And so the Democrats need to get their act together,” he added.
Douglas made the remarks at a screening for his “America’s Burning” documentary in New York City Wednesday night, where he joined other liberal Hollywood dissenters in calling for Biden to step down.

“It’s so painful for so many people who really admire him and see what an incredible three and a half years he’s had as president. But I think the tide is turning,” he commented.
The “Basic Instinct” star told Page Six that it’s “heartbreaking” to see, but said the Democratic party needs to “get it in sync, you know, just for a candidate.”
In the film, which Douglas narrates, investigates the shrinking middle class in America.
“There’s a lot of people that are just not happy,” he told the outlet. “And I think they’re not happy because they don’t have the financing.”
“[Now] you have the list of billionaires and … a list of people [worth] $100 billion. So something is out of whack,” Douglas added.
“I think it really has to do with the amount of money that’s gotten involved in politics,” he posited.
“Hopefully everybody says, ‘Well, you’re fighting windmills.’ I don’t know. I think we’ve got to start somewhere.”
Douglas, who is ultra-wealthy himself, appeared on “The View” to promote “America’s Burning,” and discussed why he believes there has been civil unrest and discontentment with the Biden administration.
The “Wall Street” star blamed the economy and referenced the numbers an economist he spoke to said have caused the middle class to decline.

He noted that while the stock market has gone up “3,800%” since 1980, “living wages” have gone up a paltry “16%.”
“We’ve lost our middle class,” he said, pointing out that American life used to be much more affordable. “Now, you’re struggling.”
Naturally, co-host Joy Behar turned the conversation towards embattled Biden and pointed out that Douglas had hosted a fundraiser for the president at his home in April.
“Do you agree for calls for him to step aside?” she questioned. “Even Nancy Pelosi seems on the fence about him stepping aside.”
“This is such a tough one. I adore the guy. Fifty years of public service, such a wonderful guy, and this just happens to be one of these elections that is just so crucial, and it’s really hard,” Douglas responded.
“I don’t worry necessarily today or tomorrow, but a year down the line I worry. I am concerned.”
He said that he believes that the chorus of Democrat politicians calling for Biden to drop out of the race are “hedging their bets.”
When asked about fellow Biden supporter George Clooney’s recent New York Times op-ed that called for Biden bow out, Douglas said he thought the actor had “a valid point.”
“I’m deeply, deeply concerned. I mean, especially, it’s difficult because the Democrats have a big bench. They’ve got a lot of heavy hitters,” he said.
It’s certainly a different tune than what Douglas was singing in April, when he told CNN that Biden was “sharp as a tack.”

“I think that I walk a little similar to him and the people that I’ve talked to, and everybody that I have, say he is as sharp as a tack. He’s fine,” the 79-year-old actor claimed at the time.
“We all have an issue of memories as we get older, we forget names … he’s overcome a stutter in his life and sometimes he might.”
He then went on to attack Trump. “Let’s just say that his entire cabinet, including his vice president, everybody in his cabinet would be more than happy to work with him again in the next term.”
“I cannot say that about the other candidate running because nobody in his cabinet for 2016 wants to be involved with him,” Douglas added.
While Behar didn’t give “The Game” star much push back after flipping on Biden, she did have some choice words for Clooney over his op-ed on Thursday.
“President Biden is fighting right now for his political future,” she announced. “George Clooney wrote an op-ed piece in the New York Times claiming that after he saw Biden’s condition at the recent fundraiser, he doesn’t think he’s up for the gig. George Clooney? Couldn’t he tell him that in person, for god’s sakes?”
She doesn’t think that Clooney, and all the other Hollywood Democrats turning on Biden “understand what’s at stake yet,” and was upset that the actor didn’t laud Biden’s economic record in the piece.
Former Trump administration staffer Alyssa Farah Griffin disagreed with Behar’s sentiment.
“Joe Biden’s feelings don’t matter more than our country. This is not the media, this is not a narrative, these are Democrats, lifelong, who want to defeat Donald Trump and who know how to win races, saying that Joe Biden cannot win as things are going,” she remarked.
“It’s top Obama advisors, top Clinton advisors, the biggest, most prolific democratic fundraiser, George Clooney — these are people who want to see Donald Trump defeated. They’re not doing this for fun or sport, they want to see Joe Biden do better.”
“We know that!” Behar shot back. “Then why are you mad at him?” Griffin sniped.
Legal expert Sunny Hostin also chimed in. “I don’t like that George Clooney did this, I don’t like that George Clooney aired this dirty laundry to the world.”
“I think these conversations are happening, I think they should be happening because our democracy is at stake, but they should be happening privately with the Commander-in-Chief, who we should have the utmost respect for,” she added.
