Actor Catches Flack For Using Jason Aldean Hit To Criticize Alabama Brawl

Actor Marlon Wayans was blasted by the black community for his commentary about the Montgomery Riverfront brawl.

The Tuesday White Chicks star’s post featured a clip of the viral fight at Montgomery’s Riverfront Park, where white boaters clashed with black riverboat staff.

Jason Aldean’s controversial song “Try That in a Small Town,” which has been labeled as racist by critics, played while chaos broke out on the Alabama dock.

“How ’bout we NOT ‘try that in a small town’…. Sh*t silly bro… let’s all just be love NOT war,” Wayans captioned the video.

“Marlon Wayans saw 6 white people jumping a black man who was just doing his job and wanted other black people to turn the other cheek because you know ‘love not war,'” one critic wrote.

“Marlon Wayans spent half of his latest stand up special joking bout the Will Smith/Chris Rock slap & saying it was the happiest day of his life,” another added. 

“But black people beating up a bunch of racists is when he wants love not war.”

Wayans was accused of leaving out important context in his post with some selective editing.

The clip did not show the beginning of the fight, which involved a conversation between a black riverboat employee and a white man before another white man initiated the violent encounter.

“HOW ABOUT you show the entire video from the beginning of a group of white man who jumped a hard working Black man that led to people intervening and protecting him,” someone replied to his post. “Stop it Marlon.”

“This version of what actually happened looks like a poorly produced Hollywood film released to only make Black people look bad,” another follower noted.

“This is exactly what the news do. Don’t show how the fight even started and that a [black] man was being attacked,” someone else wrote. “But only showed the response. This post is trash.”

In response to the backlash, Wayans shared the beginning of the fight in a follow-up post, expressing his frustration with his critics. “Y’all must got me fu***d up… here! Now stfu,” he added.

The insane brawl broke out on Saturday night, when a bunch of pontoon boaters attacked Harriott II Riverboat Co-Captain Damien Pickett for reportedly asking them to move, so his boat could dock on its reserved slip.

The altercation began when a shirtless man charged the co-captian and punched him in the face.

The Pickett tossed his hat and the two began to fist-fight wildly, then several other boaters join in an begin pummeling him.

That’s when bystanders began to get involved, with one teenager who was dubbed “Black Aquaman” jumping into the river and swimming to aid the dock worker.

From there, the fight seemed to divide along racial lines, and escalated into a man hitting people with a folding chair and a woman being thrown into the water.

Three of the boaters were charged with third-degree assault after turning themselves into the Montgomery Police Department on Tuesday.

None of the men, who were all white, were charged inciting a riot, or a hate crime.

Wayans responded to the internet backlash with a video post on Tuesday.

“I woke up to a bunch of stupid a** Google alerts, with a bunch of stupid a** sites misinterpreting my entire post,” he began.

“Why the f**k would I criticize black people for defending themselves? I’m Black, the f**k.”

“Nobody knows irony anymore, HUH?” He questioned. “Guess that just went out the window; that’s the irony of the song.”
